Good news for Rooney! He will continue to be England captain.

There was speculation that Rooney would no longer be England captain after Euro 2016 when Allardyce was appointed manager, but the former Sunderland boss gave the United striker a vote of confidence and kept him on as captain.
It now appears that this is the case under interim manager Gareth Southgate, who according to the 'Daily Mail', called the United skipper to tell him he would continue as captain.
Despite starting the season as a regular for club and country, Rooney was dropped to the bench after United's EFL Cup win over Northampton and it is not known whether he is in Mourinho's future plans at Old Trafford.
However, it seems that for now, at least, Rooney remains an integral figure of Southgate's future England teams.
